and when you have Pennyhill park in same hotel chain you have plenty of options.Celebrity marriages are a lot harder than you think compound all the stuff normal marriages deal with - finances, children, mothers-in-law who decide to quarantine with you - and add constant public scrutiny and millions of adoring fans, and you see why most Hollywood nuptials last about a hockey season. If there was only one negative it's the current lack of spa or treatment rooms, but I believe this is being addressed very soon. I would definitely recommend this hotel particularly for the Christmas we just experienced. I admit that this standard of service, food/drink and rooms does not come cheap but it is a 5 star hotel and that's what you get.

The standard of food was very much in line you would expect from a 3AA rosette awarded kitchen, from the full English breakfast to the Christmas dinner it was all very good. A full Christmas itinerary was laid on to keep everyone busy, from duck herding Christmas morning, Quiz in the evening, Games room for kids, and clay pigeon shooting Boxing day morning just to name a few. For me, all the staff I experienced deserve a 10 out of 10, they all performed brilliantly in a very busy period. We arrived 24th Dec and immediately received a very warm welcome from all the staff, and this carried on through the whole Christmas period nothing was too much trouble. Also the hotel is dog friendly small charge), they supplied bed/bowls and treats and with 93 acres of grounds it's great for long walks. You will struggle to find nicer rooms without taking out a small mortgage for a w/e away.

Our room had side by side roll-top baths with tv built into the wall, the kids room had a jacuzzi bath also tv in wall and both have huge walk-in showers, plus big main bedrooms with high ceilings adding to feeling of space. We booked adjoining deluxe junior garden suites with lockable shared corridor in the newest part of hotel and cliched as it may sound these rooms are absolutely stunning. Having just spent a 2day Christmas break at South Lodge, I have returned impelled to write a glowing for this hotel. I have recommended this place to young couples and families alike. Without doubt it is not the food, furnishings or flashy bathroom that made our stay memorable, it was the smiling staff who were efficient and friendly throughout our stay.
The grounds of the Hotel are extensive and with the provided wellington boots it was fun to walk around the woodland and lawns, followed by a hot chocolate in front of the open fire place. The English breakfast was particularly good (and hot) but they forgot they milk for our museli. On the whole breakfast was very good, although nothing out of the ordinary. We chose a couple of extra pillows from the pillow menu (recommend Lavender!) and had a blissful night's sleep until our room service breakfast arrived on time at 10:00am. My only quibble with the meal is that the puddings were not at the same level as everything else - more like homemade desserts. The service was charismatic and unintrusive which contributed to the casual but stylish atmosphere. Upon arriving at The Camilla Restaurant the staff already knew who we were and wished my partner 'Happy Birthday' (fantastic communication!).the waiter who took our order explained that the roast sirloin comes medium rare or more (I had asked for very rare) and so he magnanimously said the Chef would prepare a fresh sirloin - in fact the Chef prepared a large fillet steak (at no extra charge) which was fantastic. The room was immaculate and the bedding very comfortable.
It has two double ended baths adjacent to one another, facing a flat screen TV! There was also a large walk-in shower that jetted water from all directions, and two adjacent sinks. Fortunately we had a Junior Suite (called Ditchling Beacon) which was incredibly spacious, but the highlight of our room was the wonderful bathroom. From the moment we arrived my partner and I received exemplary 5* service. I stayed at South Lodge on a Sunday in early January 2011.
